Where we dive

We only update the website occasionally, if you want to see more about what’s going on at Mid Lancs SAC, follow us on Facebook and Instagram. You can also check out our YouTube page

Capernwray & The Delph (Inland Quaries)

There are several inland sites within a reasonable distance from our Wigan base, for training purposes, we use dive centres such as The Delph in Eccleston and Capernwray which is close to Carnforth on the edge of the Lake District.

The Delph

Both of these sites have excellent facilities, changing rooms, showers and a café as well as dive shops and compressor facilities to fill cylinders.

We also venture further afield, especially during the winter months when sea diving isn’t possible. We frequently visit another dive centre, Stoney Cove which is in Leicestershire and Wastwater in the lake district. Both of these sites give us opportunities for depth progression as well as being somewhere different to dive.

Inland sites are great for training purposes and to dive during the winter months, but to see more interesting things, you really need to get into the sea. There are numerous dive operators around the UK running dive trips to wrecks and reefs. Operators like Marine Quest and In Deep Diving can cater for different levels of diving, whether you’re interested in marine life or ship wrecks.

Scapa Flow

Every few years, we head up to Scapa Flow in the Orkneys which is one of the top places in the world for wreck diving. You can read about our most recent trip to Scapa Flow here

Anglesey

We’re fortunate to have access to a rib (rigid inflatable boat) named Little Mo which gives up the opportunity to dive anywhere there is a slipway to launch the boat. We don’t have to rely on commercial dive operators. Day trips to Anglesey are run frequently when the weather is favourable.

You can read about one of our trips to Anglesey to dive the wreck of the Segontium here and our recent weekend trip to Anglesey here.

And here is a video of a recent trip to dive the wreck of the Kimya.

Weekends in Largs, a small town West of Glasgow, are another favourite destination for Mid Lancs.

Beautiful scenery in Largs

If you would like to read more about our most recent trip to Largs here’s out blog page – Largs

Another favourite of the clubs is Lochaline – The Sound of Mull.
An incredible drive through the Scottish highlands and into a remote part of the country, Lochaline is famous for its outstanding Shipwrecks, marine life and soft corals.

There are some brilliant videos taken from our club members which you can see on our Facebook or on the blog post – Lochaline 2026.

Abroad

As well as a substantial amount of diving around the UK, we’ve also run trips abroad to places such as the Red Sea and Narvik in Norway.
